This drawing captures the winter seasonal event- seed dispersal. Living cycles among the trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.

Earthday: I love researching diverse habitats and drawing species near and far. This composite drawing represents some of my favorite Midatlantic Atlantic species. Hard to choose a favorite when you appreciate the diverse layers of an ecosystem. Feeling lucky to have this nature connection.

I fell in love with the sunflowers I planted this summer. By August they were reaching for the sky. Drawing them focused my eye on the complex spiral center, the whimsical petals and those giant leaves. All worries drifted away as I stayed present with this amazing plant. Mixed media drawing, 12” x 16”, framed 18” x 22”.

I have drawn Monard didyma over 28 years, every summer I visit my garden’s Monarda patch in early June to smell the tightly folded flower buds. Late June and July are the prime months for flowering, by August the flowers are dying off. Drawing it over these months I am filled with wonder and commitment.

The dancing spirit of this native fern is highlighted in this watercolor painting of Osmundastrum cinnamomeum. I love every stage of its lifecycle, from budding fronds in the spring to cinnamon honey-colored fronds in the fall.
