What's happening in my art and in the Studio:

You will find a variety of paintings & drawings that reflect my passion for this landscape, and its native plant and animal inhabitants.

  • Teaching art workshops and leading hikes on Sugaloaf Mountain.
  • Jury mixed media art exhibit April 30, Quince Orchard High School.
  • New body of work exploring the dispersal and habitat conditions for invasive and endangered species.
  • Last Summer I participated in a field art workshop at Thoreau's Walden Pond, in Concord Mass. I taught literature and biology teachers from across the country in a walk outside of the box, exploring a variety of methods for field art journaling.
  • My art welcomes visitors to the Agricultural Reserve, in a pastoral sign at Historic Whites Ferry. I have an archival print of this view of Sugarloaf Mountain and the surrounding pastoral landscape. Unmatted and framed prints are available.
  • Feature article in the Frederick News Post, Sonia Boin, November 3, 2007. To read the full article click on the link, "Art Inspired by Nature"
  • Paintings, Pastels, and color pencil drawings from field work in a variety of habitats from:Yosemite to Sugaloaf's rustic backyard.
  • Monoprints and Archival Giclee prints
  • The old oak trees in Barnesville are captured in graphite and available in archival prints.

YOU will continue to find the illustrated Sugarloaf books, and colorful art map of the Agricultural Reserve which describe this enchanting landscape.

  • A Full Color Art Map of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve.  This art map was featured in the Washington Post in honor of the 25th anniversary celebration of our Agricultural Reserve.  It is a wonderful pictorial guide to the Ag Reserve, filled with plants, animals, farm facts & rustic scenes.  I will have autographed copies for sale, framed and unframed.
  • I am happy to offer the 2-volume Sugarloaf book set. My illustrations fill these books. The first volume is in its 3rd printing, and the illustrated field guide has just been released in a paperback edition, with a vibrant illustrated color cover. These are great gifts for gardeners, hikers, and naturalists who want to learn more about our local flowers and trees.

Come visit Morningstar Studio, 18201 Barnesville Road in Barnesville, MD. Morningstar Studio is a wonderful creative space, built with logs from a circa 1790 log cabin. When you visit my studio, you will experience the magic in historic Barnesville. Enjoy the fall colors in our meadows, hillsides and on Sugarloaf Mountain.  The rural town of Barnesville & my rustic studio are in the heart of the Agricultural Reserve, a pastoral landscape filled with orchards, farms, hay bales, horses, sheep, and lots of artisans.
